Click here to view this week's Mass. The video for the 4 PM vigil Mass will be available by about 7 PM on Saturday. NOTE: I apologize but we were not able to record the 4pm Mass today. We will record Sunday's 8am Mass and have it available for you to view by about 10am. Peace, Deacon Dave
Congratulations to all our students returning to school. Not only to regular school classes, but to classes in our Religious Education Program that begin this weekend!
I heard a funny story and it goes like this: Johnny had been misbehaving and was sent to his room. After a while he came out and informed his mother that he had thought it over and then said a prayer. His mother was so pleased! She said to him, "If you ask God to help you not misbehave, He will help you." "Oh, said little Johnny, I didn't ask Him to help me not misbehave," "I asked Him to help you put up with me."
That is funny! And the fact is, a child might think that way. At least until an adult told them that is not how it works - that others should not have to "put up with them" but that we should be pleasant and easy to put up with. But don't we see adults thinking like this little child all the time? And, isn't it true that that adult is sometimes us?
In our Gospel this weekend, Jesus is pouring his heart out to his apostles, telling them of how he must die. And the apostles, instead of listening to him, are arguing with each other about who is the greatest! Jesus sure had a lot to put up with!
This week, may each of us listen carefully to what Jesus is telling us in our lives. And let's not miss an important message from him because of our chatter about things that matter a whole lot less. Let our hearts be softened and enlightened by his wise and loving teachings.
This weekend we begin our youth religious education program. It is good to see so many young people learning together about Jesus and our need to have him present in our lives and in our world. If you know of someone who may want to attend, please let their parents know that it is not too late. Call the rectory and we will sign them up!
God's Peace,
Deacon Dave
