Click here to view this week's Mass. The video for the 4 PM vigil Mass will be available by about 7 PM on Saturday.
A number of years ago a friend told me of something that happened to her. She said that he was not very proud of it. She had just arrived in the parking lot of St. Luke's Mission of Mercy to attend Mass. It was in the evening and outside the church there was a rather loud bunch of young people who looked really tough. My friend made sure to go right from her car into the side door of the church to avoid them. She knelt down in a pew and before she began her prayers, was thinking about what a sad situation it was that the gang outside had nothing better to do than raise a ruckus and be so annoying to the nice people going to church.
My friend told me that when Mass began and the opening song started, she couldn't believe her ears! There was a strong and beautiful chorus singing in the back of the church. She turned around to find that same group of "tough" looking young people, singing and praising God as a chorus of angels!
In our reading from James this weekend, we learn how Jesus really wants us to treat everyone with the same respect - rich or poor. Whether they are in a three piece suit or shabbily dressed! This week let us make a point of giving equal respect to all the people we encounter.
God's Peace,
Deacon Dave
